Creative Process

The Challenge

Advanced Distributor Products (ADP) competes in a crowded residential HVAC components market where products are treated as interchangeable, the purchase runs through distributors, and contractors/brand rarely factor into the decision. ADP had earned a genuinely differentiating advantage — the exclusive North American license for HVAC drain pans built with Microban antimicrobial protection, which inhibits the mold and mildew that plagues standard pans — but [the advantage wasn't landing with the Dealers, as it was buried in spec-sheet language as a lesser benefit.

The job: turn a technical licensing win into a clear, ownable brand position the market could feel.

The Insight

Through audience research and voice-of-customer work with contractors and distributors, one pattern stood out: parts weren't a primary focus; it was callbacks, warranty claims, and trust. Homeowners feared hidden mold but didn't know it was preventable, as contractors wanted a reason to recommend a premium part. One homeowner noted, "I didn't know I could request a unit that prevents mold and mildew."

Exclusivity was the unlock — no competitor could make the claim. That reframed the brief from "a better drain pan" to a single defensible idea: ADP is the only one.

The Strategy

I built a messaging platform around the ownable claim "The Only One". The position did three jobs: it translated a technical license into a trust-based, emotional benefit, it gave the sales channel a memorable reason to recommend, and it created a flexible umbrella the brand could extend to future exclusives. The go-to-market plan sequenced the rollout across sales enablement → distributor education → trade → digital, so each audience received the message in the order that drove adoption.

The Execution

The platform came to life through campaign guidelines and identity work, a messaging and copywriting system, sales-enablement tools, and campaign creative across numerous print & digital channels.
